Fall 2025 - Congratulations and goodbye to UGs and High School summer students
Congratulations to Natalie Walsh and Abhi Vayyeti who graduated from SLU. Natalie has started her PhD at WashU Biochemistry and Abhi has started his MD program at SLU. Congratulations to both. A bid cheers also to Josh Schultz who came back this summer to carry out research with us and has headed back to Tufts for his junior year. Goodbye to Aidan Antony and Maya Matthew, junior and senior from Ladue High School. They had a blast doing summer research internships with us. We also got to say good bye to Mohamad Ghoneim, who is headed to the University of Kansas. |

August 2025 - Group receives a new R01 grant from the National Cancer Institute.
The team received a five-year grant from the National Cancer Institute totaling $2,5 million. The grant, titled “Pre-synaptic events in homologous recombination and maintenance of genomic stability,” focuses on uncovering the mechanisms of the human BRCA2 protein and its functional ortholog in yeast (Rad52). These proteins promote a key DNA repair pathway called Homologous Recombination that resolves double-strand breaks in the DNA leading to protection of the genome. |

This work shows the relationship between Srs2 and RPA levels in controlling genomic stability. Rahul comes to the group from Washington University in St. Louis and is an expert in single-molecule TIRF imaging. Jaigeeth Deveryshetty, Dwaipayan Das Gupta and Faiz Ahmed join our team as postdoctoral fellows. Welcome! Jaigeeth received his PhD from the Indian Institutes of Technology (Mumbai) and was a former postdoctoral fellow at Saint Louis University. Dwaipayan received his PhD from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (Mumbai, India) and was a former postdoctoral fellow at Temple University. Faiz received his PhD from the University of Konstanz (Germany) and was a former postdoctoral fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

The first paper, in collaboration with the Galletto lab at Washington University, describes the mechanism of Rim1 (Singh et al, Nuc. Acids Research).
The second paper is a review article, in collaboration with the Seefeldt group at Utah State, presents a new model for Nitrogenase function (Seefeldt et al Accounts of Chemical Research).
The third paper, in collaboration with the Balci group at Kent State, describes a new tool to correlate Force and Fluorescence measurements in single molecule experiments (Mustafa et al Biosensors and Bioelectronics).
